How to convert HEIC to JPG (iPhone photos on Windows, forms and email)
Updated 13 October 2026
If you have ever tried to upload an iPhone photo to a website and seen an error, the photo was probably a HEIC file. Here is what that means and how to fix it.
What is HEIC?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the default photo format on recent iPhones. It stores photos at roughly half the size of a JPG at similar quality. The catch is compatibility: many websites, forms, Windows apps and older devices do not read it.
Option 1: change the camera setting
On iPhone you can go to Settings → Camera → Formats and choose “Most Compatible”. New photos will then be saved as JPG. This does not change photos you have already taken.
Option 2: share as JPG
When you share a photo from the iPhone Photos app, choosing “Options” and selecting “Most Compatible” converts it to JPG as it is sent. This is handy for one-off photos.
Option 3: convert in the browser
For a batch of existing photos, a browser converter is quick. It reads the HEIC file on your device, creates a JPG and lets you download it. No upload is needed, so private photos stay private.
What happens to metadata
The converted JPG is created from the image pixels. It generally does not carry over details such as the exact location. If you want to be sure, run the result through an EXIF remover as well.
Choosing quality
A quality of 90 to 95 keeps photos looking the same for almost every purpose. If you need a small file for a form, convert to JPG first and then compress it to a target size.
Try it now
Drop your HEIC files in the converter below. You can convert many at once and download them together as a ZIP. If you need PNG instead, use HEIC to PNG.
